The Prosecuting Attorney of Jackson County is Henry C. Jackson County Circuit Court
The State of Michigan is divided into 57 judicial circuits along county lines. Each circuit is a unified court system in which all trial courts are consolidated under a chief judge. Circuit judges are elected for six - year terms on non-partisan ballots.
Jackson County Circuit Court is the trial court of general jurisdiction in Jackson Michigan. It has jurisdiction over all actions except those given by state law to another court. The Circuit Court has original jurisdiction in all civil cases involving more than $25,000, in all criminal cases where the offense is a felony or a serious misdemeanor, all domestic relations cases, and all child abuse, neglect, and delinquency cases. In addition, the circuit court hears matters relating employment discrimination, sex harassment cases, business ownership disputes, disability discrimination, unpaid wage claims, enforcement of non-competition agreements, wrongful discharge claims, zoning disputes, and criminal matters, from drug crimes like possession and manufacturing to bank robbery, armed robbery, murder, arson, criminal sexual conduct, third offence drunk driving. The Circuit Court also hears appeals from lower courts; appeals from local government boards such as zoning appeals; and appeals from some administrative agencies of state government (such as the Driver's License Appeal Division of the Secretary of State). Jackson County District Court
District Courts: A district court has exclusive jurisdiction of all civil litigation where the amount in dispute is less than $25,000; and handles many local land use disputes, debt collection actions, and eviction proceedings. The district courts generally handle all misdemeanor charges where punishments do not exceed one year, including arraignment, setting and acceptance of bail, trial and sentencing; and conduct preliminary examinations in felony cases.
12th Judicial District Court of Jackson County is located in Jackson MI. The 12th Judicial District Court is dedicated to dispensing equal justice in all matters under the court's jurisdiction, providing the highest quality of professional services in a prompt and efficient manner, and recognizing and respecting the individual dignity of all people served by the court. It is also a trial court of limited jurisdiction. The 12th District Court has exclusive jurisdiction over the following types of cases: Civil suits involving $25,000 or less, Adult criminal misdemeanor offenses punishable by up to one year's imprisonment, Civil infractions, Traffic violations, Landlord/tenant disputes, Small claims (involving $3,000 or less), Land contract forfeitures. In addition to its jurisdiction to try adult criminal offenses punishable by up to one year's imprisonment, the district court is the court in which all other adult criminal proceedings begin, regardless of the nature of the offense. In carrying out this function, the district court has jurisdiction to issue arrest and search warrants, set bail and accept bond, conduct misdemeanor and felony arraignments, preside over preliminary examinations for felony and misdemeanor offenses outside its trial jurisdiction, and perform civil marriage ceremonies.
