Washtenaw County Courts
22nd Circuit Court for Washtenaw County
The civil/criminal division of the Washtenaw County Trial Court is the 22nd Circuit Court. The Washtenaw County Trial Court has general jurisdiction in all civil cases involving more than $25,000 and all felony prosecutions. The Court generally hears Washtenaw County business litigation, including ownership disputes, trade secret claims, and non-compete violations, and all employment related claims, including discrimination, sex harassment cases, disability discrimination, unpaid wage claims, enforcement of non-competition agreements, wrongful discharge claims, and zoning disputes. The 22nd Circuit Court hears all criminal cases where the offense is a felony or a serious misdemeanor, from drug crimes like possession and manufacturing to bank robbery, armed robbery, murder, arson, criminal sexual conduct, third offense drunk driving. The Washtenaw County Circuit Court judges are Archie C. Brown, Timothy P. Connors, Nancy C. Francis, Melinda Morris, Darlene A. O'Brien, Donald E. Shelton, David S. Swartz.
Washtenaw County District Courts
District Courts: A district court has exclusive jurisdiction of all civil litigation where the amount in dispute is less than $25,000; and handles many local land use disputes, debt collection actions, eviction proceedings. The district courts generally handle all misdemeanor charges where punishments do not exceed one year, including arraignment, setting and acceptance of bail, trial and sentencing; and conduct preliminary examinations in felony cases.
The 15th Judicial District Court (301 E. Huron Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48107, 734-794-6759) is located in downtown Ann Arbor in the new City Municipal Building. The court is served by three elected judges, Christopher Easthope, Julie Creal, and Elizabeth P. Hines, and one appointed magistrate, M. Colleen Currie.
14A Judicial District Courts handle all Washtenaw County matters originating outside of the City of Ann Arbor and is served by three Judges: the Honorable Richard E. Conlin, Kirk Tabbey, and J. Cedric Simpson, and Magistrates Horne and Truesdell. The 14A-1 District Court also has the additional duty of hearing all preliminary examinations for Washtenaw County felony cases from its location in the Washtenaw County Service Center. The 14A-1 District Court hears cases out of the Townships of Ann Arbor, Augusta, Pittsfield, Salem, and Superior, as well as the Village of Barton Hills.

Washtenaw County Law Enforcement
The Chief Prosecuting Attorney of Washtenaw County is Brian L. Mackie, although some misdemeanors and all civil infractions are prosecuted by local city attorneys, such as Ann Arbor City Attorney Stephen Postema and Ypsilanti City Attorneys John and Karl Barr.
