Attorney Nicholas Roumel recently filed suit on behalf of a former elementary school principal in Harbor Springs public schools. The suit alleges that Plaintiff Karey Scholten was illegally placed on an involuntary medical leave by the superintendent, leading to speculation, rumor, and innuendo, that undermined Ms. Scholten professionally and personally. She was removed from her principal’s position into an administrative one. Although she performed well, after filing an administrative complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Ms. Scholten was “laid off” from her administrative position at the end of the school year. The suit alleges discrimination and retaliation on various theories, and has been assigned to Judge Janet T. Neff in the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan.
