Equal Pay Advocate and namesake of the 2008 Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act will be speaking at the University of Michigan at 7PM on October 2, 2013 in Rackham Auditorium. After a jury found that Ledbetter had been illegally discriminated against by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, a legal quirk in Title VII effectively limited her relief. Ms. Ledbetter will recount her legal battle, and the 2007 Supreme Court decision that led to the 2008 Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act – the first law signed into effect by President Obama.
The lecture is free and open to the public, with seating beginning at 6:30PM. A question and answer session as well as book signing will occur immediately after the lecture. The annual Vivian R. Shaw Lecture is presented by the Institute for Research on Women and Gender and the Department of Women’s Studies. Cosponsors include the Ford School of Public Policy, Communication Studies, School of Social Work, Law School, Political Science, American Culture, and the Center for the Education of Women.
