Disaster unemployment assistance is now available to residents of Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne Counties who lost out on wages due to flooding in August. Federal funding through FEMA is available for up to 26 weeks of benefits for people who don’t otherwise qualify for state unemployment benefits. You may qualify if the following is true:

•· Due to the flooding you no longer have a place to work, or

•· Can’t reach your place of work, or

•· Your place of work is not in operation, or

•· You were injured and cannot work.

•· Additionally, if you are now the primary breadwinner of your household due to either a death or injury caused by the flooding, you may also be eligible for benefits.

You must apply through the state by November 3, 2014.  The application can be found here.
