Attorneys Nick Roumel and Amanda Ghannam have resolved a claim by a 9 year old girl, against a charter school academy, who reported that she was sexually harassed and assaulted at school by an older classmate. Despite complaints from the girl’s mother, the school failed to either conduct a proper investigation or discipline the perpetrator, and accused the girl of lying, and removed the mother from her substitute teaching position. When the mother dis-enrolled her daughter, the school accused her of truancy.
The school denied the allegations, but agreed to mediate the claim, which was settled for a confidential sum. The girl and her sister are thriving in a new school.
Roumel and Ghannam have also resolved three claims against Michigan State University, brought by survivors of Larry Nassar’s criminal sexual conduct. They are continuing lawsuits against the US Olympic Committee and USA Gymnastics.
