Eleven officers of the East Cleveland Police Department have been indicted by a Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas grand jury on a number of charges involving police brutality.
In 2022, Attorney David Nacht brought a civil action on behalf of his client Redrick Ward, against the department, the former police chief, and three of its officers, including former Officer Nicholas Foti, who is named in the indictment. During a traffic stop in April 2020, Foti tased Mr. Ward several times and stomped on his head, while other officers beat Mr. Ward as they held him face-down on the pavement and hand-cuffed.
Nacht met Mr. Ward and believed his account. Mr. Ward had spent a year seeking legal representation to no avail. Nacht requested the police records which resulted in the airing of a police body cam video on Cleveland TV channels.
Nacht said “We are pleased to see Cuyahoga County has taken appropriate action in the case concerning the assault of Redrick Ward. We hope Mr. Ward will receive justice in this matter.”
